August 31st will be my last day in the the field of agriculture. Our farm was sold on July 22nd, and my father will disperse all of his cattle and equipment before the first day of September. Three days later our family will take our first real vacation in 15 years.

Even though we have another month, I already have this incredible feeling of freedom. It’s called NO JOB!

When I was 7 years old my dad took me to the Farm Bureau on Grace Street and bought me my first pair of Carolina work shoes and I thought I had hit the big time. I’ll still be wearing the Carolinas out of respect for the generations of my family who worked like dogs to make ends meet. I’m thrilled for my dad who is completely worn out after a lifetime of sacrifice. I hope he enjoys the remaining years of his life. He’s definitely earned it.

On a side note…If production agriculture continues the road it’s on, it will soon be unaffordable to participate in. The thing that will allow this area to hold on longer will be the worship of farming by Old Order Mennonites, their “old money”, and their giving of the land to the next generation cheap. In Pennsylvania, the Amish are starting to run out of money, and we are usually about 10 years behind them. The new Chesapeake Bay restrictions, high input costs, state and federal permit requirements, and taxes is going to be the ruination of a great thing.

After reading a comment in moderation I want to make it clear that we are fine and things have changed in a very good way for us. Megan has a post on her blog that gives more details. I had decided after this election that I was going to disappear somewhat for a good while.

As far as percentages go I was 4 off on Tony and 1 off on Kai. One thing that will never be answerable is which of the two Carolyn got her 5% off of. If I were to guess I would say she pulled off them evenly. That would mean that Tony would have had real close to 70% and Kai would have gotten low 30’s which is exactly what all the democrat delegate candidates pulled last year.

Congratulations to Tony! I’ll be buying stock in some selected natural gas companies tomorrow…….;OP

I became aware today in a discussion over at Hburgnews that in order to be a viable candidate for office you have to bring in a bunch of money from outside of the district then spend that money on mail pieces that confuse and misrepresent the truth to voters. This money can also be spent on signage which, as we all know, is one of the best ways to communicate to voters which candidate is the most qualified.

I’ll never forget Gene Hart’s campaign. He spent his own money, and knocked on doors all summer and fall, only to get waxed. He was a viable candidate….who Carolyn, 2 years earlier performed better than as far percentages and dollars spent($4,000). Or how about Lowell Fulk? He spent a whopping quarter of a million dollars and still couldn’t get the job done. Maybe we should look at any democrat as “unviable” in this district and support an independent…..since OBVIOUSLY calling yourself a democrat is a sure way to LOSE.

Of course, maybe AFTER Kai gets crushed they may get a clue…..MAYBE, but probably not. Let’s see. If you take the democratic base which is about 30%, and add 10% for independents, and a few republicans who aren’t thrilled with Tony….you get close to fifty. Kai will only get the democratic base. Now just who is the spoiler? Can anyone argue that Kai can bring the democratic base AND bring independents, AND some republicans?

Let me bring it down on a level that everyone can understand.

For the last 20 years Carolyn has worked her tail off for this community. She organized a soccer league, did more church work than you can imagine, got involved in charities that she had no vested interest in. No, she hasn’t been the bear hunter of the year, been the past governor of the zone 20 Shriners Womens Auxillary, balanced a school budget, or created 100 new jobs…..

If anyone has EARNED the right to run for this seat….IT’S CAROLYN FRANK….just ask Marsha Garst.

Now everyone get out there and vote for Tony Wilt. He’s the republican and he needs our vote to win.

The largest portion of Kai’s money is from outside of the district. The donations from inside the district are the usual suspects who aren’t really setting the offering plate on fire. He also paid NARAL $1 for something….

Tony’s supporting cast remains the same as Matt’s.

Carolyn obviously isn’t raising or spending squat, which will make her vote total interesting considering she’s not doing anything.

Just a few short weeks ago, Degner was harping about city council passing a resolution condemning hydro-fracking along with sending a letter to the BOS. He said that he had seen enough to make the determination that is was detrimental to the environment.

This morning, according to a press release that was read on the radio…..He’s for it as long as it’s safe.

Could this be because one of his biggest supporters owns land in Bergton, and he must now back away from total denial of this to keep support?

I think any half educated idiot knows that the city council has nothing to do with making or passing a balanced school budget…..the school board does that. I wonder how the school board feels having Kai take credit for what they did? Kai did nothing more on the school budget than Ted, Richard, Carolyn, or Dave, which was “okay” the funding the school board wanted.

Right Kai?

Over the last several weeks I’ve had several dreams all about the same subject. The funny thing is that I never think about this during the day.

Up until the 8th grade I did really well in school without trying. Something made me give up on school for some reason. I was always participating in the school spelling bees, selected as 1 of 10 in the 6th grade to take French from a tutor, and when I moved to middle and high school, put in honors classes.

At TA, there was a really tough(mean) English teacher that I got as a freshman. After two days of her class, I dropped out for regular English with a nicer teacher. This teacher went to the assistant principle to have me put back in her class, but I insisted that I was not coming back and she gave me a lecture in the hallway that I relived last night.

Obviously, I chose to sleep during school and not do homework, and enjoyed my farm things instead, but I still don’t like school and I don’t really regret hating it….

Any shrinks out there have any opinions on why I’m having these dreams?

Last night in one of the questions Dean raised the issue of moral decline in America. Carolyn responded that she thought that the negative is more sought after by the news, and therefore, we don’t hear about all the good.

My own take is that things are getting worse because people aren’t as ashamed of their wickedness anymore and are openly flaunting their sinfulness.

If we would have had the internet and 24 hour news since our country’s founding, what would some of the headlines read? Here’s a few I thought of…..

On behalf of my local republican friends let me clear up some of the issues raised on the mail-piece.

The accusation that Kai supported raising property taxes on Harrisonburg residents is VERY true. Carolyn, Ted, and the rest of them were forced to do it because they lacked the funding from the state!

Kai supports amnesty for illegal immigrants just like John Elledge, Carolyn Frank, and Ted Byrd. It is called the Dream Act which allows people who grow up here and go to school here to stay here once they turn 18 instead of being deported. Common sense!

It says that he opposes all legislation that increase tax burdens on families and businesses….so we’ll just pay them at the local level!

Other than those three small minor details I thought it had nice fonts and photography.

And I agree with Lowell and Jeremy, Tony had nothing to with that.
